Concrete Driveways & Crossovers Perth

A driveway to a home or commercial property is the first thing visitors see and the last thing you want to think about for the next 30 years. Get it right once and it pays off in kerb appeal, property value and zero maintenance hassle. At Colacrete we pour driveways across Perth — from new-build estates in Baldivis through to character-home replacements in Floreat, Subiaco and Claremont — in every finish from standard grey to high-end exposed aggregate and honed concrete.

What we do

We handle your concrete driveway and crossover needs:

NEW DRIVEWAYS for new builds, knock-down rebuilds, and renovations

DRIVEWAY REPLACEMENTS where existing concrete or paving has reached the end of its life

DRIVEWAY EXTENSIONS to extend an existing driveway for additional parking or access

CROSSOVERS — the section of driveway crossing the verge from the kerb, including council-compliant work.

APRON AND ENTRY GATES integrating with garages, carports and entry gates

  • COUNCIL APPROVAL (WHERE APPLICABLE) - for crossovers

As the owners of the property, you will need to get council approval for the crossover with the relevant authority. We will review the spec for our quote.

  • SITE VISIT, QUOTATION AND DEMOLITION

Free measure and quote, typically within 24–48 hours of contact.

If there is an existing driveway that needs removal, we can look after this for you with our demolishing partners. Existing driveway or paving is removed and disposed of.

  • SITE PREPARATION

Site preparation. Excavation, levelling, compaction, drainage. The base under the slab matters as much as the slab itself. We also do the boxing, steel mesh or bar reinforcement to spec.

  • POURING THE CONCRETE

Concrete delivered from our local Perth concrete suppliers, poured to the right depth and screeded to level.

  • FINISHING THE CONCRETE

Following concrete pour, and once the concrete has reached the right stage of set, we finish the concrete to the desired finish. Trowel, broom, exposed aggregate wash, hone or polish — depending on your chosen finish.

Concrete is cured and we seal for decorative finishes.

Driveway and crossover finish options

Your driveway finish is the biggest aesthetic decision you’ll make. The four most common choices in Perth:

Standard grey concrete — the most affordable option. A broom or trowel finish on plain grey concrete. Functional, durable, and significantly more affordable than decorative finishes. Pairs well with traditional homes and where the driveway isn’t the design feature.

Exposed aggregate — the most popular decorative finish in Perth. Textured, slip-resistant, available in a wide range of aggregate colours and stones. Suits everything from coastal homes to modern builds.

Honed concrete — smooth matte finish that’s increasingly popular in Perth’s premium suburbs. More refined than exposed aggregate, slip-resistant, easier to clean.

Liquid limestone — Perth’s distinctive limestone-look poured concrete. Excellent for coastal and Hamptons-style homes.

We’ll help you pick the right finish based on your home’s architecture, the surrounding materials, your budget and how the driveway needs to perform.

Why choose Colacrete for your driveway?

Built for Perth conditions. Driveways in Perth deal with extreme UV, heat, occasional heavy rain, and sandy soil that can shift. We pour to the right depth (typically 100mm for residential), with appropriate reinforcement and joint placement to control cracking.

End-to-end service. Demolition of existing concrete (where required), site prep, formwork, reinforcement, pour, finish, sealing — all by the same team. No subcontracted finishing, no handoffs.

Council-compliant crossovers. Crossovers crossing the verge from the kerb are subject to local council requirements that vary across Perth’s local government areas. We work to those specs.

Genuine experience. Eddie’s background as a concreter and construction engineer (John Holland, Downer, CBH) means structural fundamentals — slab thickness, mesh placement, joint design — are done correctly the first time.

FAQ

  • For a typical residential driveway, the active construction time is two to four days — site prep, formwork, pour and finish. Even less if its solely a crossover. Allow another 7 days before driving on it for the concrete to develop initial strength, and full cure at 28 days.

  • A well-installed concrete driveway lasts 30 to 50 years. Decorative finishes (exposed aggregate, honed) need periodic resealing every 3 to 5 years to keep them looking their best, but the underlying slab will outlast almost any other driveway material.

  • Concrete driveway pricing in Perth typically ranges from $85 to $200+ per square metre, depending on the finish, the size of the area, site access and any prep work or demolition required.* Standard grey concrete sits at the affordable end; coloured and liquid limestone sit in the middle; exposed aggregate, honed and polished sit at the premium end. Pricing is indicative and subject to change based on material costs, project specifications and site conditions.

  • Crossovers — the section across the verge from the kerb — typically require council approval, and specifications vary across Perth’s local government areas (City of Stirling, City of Joondalup, City of Fremantle, etc). The driveway on your property generally doesn’t need council approval but may be subject to building approval if part of a wider new build.

  • Concrete moves slightly over time, and hairline cracks are normal and not structural. We control cracking through proper slab depth, reinforcement, and saw-cut control joints placed at appropriate intervals. Major structural cracking is rare with a properly installed driveway.

  • Sectional replacement is possible — for example, replacing a damaged front section while keeping the rear in place. Matching the colour and finish of an existing driveway is more difficult than starting fresh, but a close match is achievable in most cases. We’re happy to talk through whether sectional replacement makes sense or whether a full replacement is the better long-term answer.

  • Yes, we offer demolition of existing concrete or paving. Let us know if you require us to look after this, and we will include it in our quote!
