House Slabs & Structural Concrete Perth

A house slab is the foundation everything else sits on — and one mistake at the slab stage costs ten times as much to fix as it would have cost to get right. At Colacrete we pour house slabs across Perth for builders, owner-builders, developers and homeowners. With Eddie’s background as both a hands-on concreter and a construction engineer (John Holland, Downer, CBH), structural concrete is where we sharpen our edge — engineering interpretation, structural fundamentals, scheduling discipline.

What we do

Our structural concrete services include:

House slabs — conventional and engineered slabs for new homes, knock-down rebuilds, and additions. Where the design or soil conditions require something specific — heavily reinforced slabs, post-tensioned slabs, slabs over basements or services. We work to the engineer’s drawings and spec.

Footings and pads— strip footings, pad footings, isolated footings for sheds, garages, retaining walls

Suspended slabs — second-storey slabs, deck slabs, balcony slabs. Concrete slabs that span between supporting walls or columns rather than sitting on the ground. Used for upper-floor slabs, balconies, and decking. These require more complex formwork and reinforcement design.

Beams and columns — engineered beams, structural columns

Garage and shed pads — see garage and shed pads for the dedicated page

Retaining wall footings— supporting block, panel or concrete walls

‍ Why builders and owner-builders choose Colacrete

Engineering interpretation. Eddie’s construction engineering background means we read drawings the way the engineer intended. Reinforcement schedules, lap lengths, cover requirements, joint specifications — all interpreted correctly the first time.

On-time, every time. We understand that a slab pour is the gating item for the rest of the build. We hold our schedule, organise materials and pumps in advance, and coordinate with other trades.

Direct communication. No phone tag, no chasing. You speak to Eddie or the relevant person who can make decisions.

Local supplier network. Concrete from Perth-based suppliers, scheduled in for the right time of day to give us the right working window.

HIA, MBA, CIA members. Industry credentials that matter for builders working under HIA contracts.

  • PRE-POUR PLANNING

We review the engineer’s drawings and specifications. We then schedule the concrete delivery and coordinate with the site supervisor.

  • SITE PREPARATION

Once the earthworks are complete, we set out the slabs in accordance with the approved drawings and specs. This is where we add the required reinforcement, mesh and bar chairs. We also erect the formwork.

  • POUR DAY

Concrete is delivered, pumped or chuted into the slab, vibrated and screeded to level. Power-trowelled for finish.

  • CURING & FINISHING

Slab is cured under controlled conditions. Final finish (broom, smooth, sealed) depending on whether the slab is the finished floor or will have a floor covering laid over it.

FAQ

  • Yes. Any house slab in WA must be designed by a structural engineer. The engineer’s drawings specify the slab type, thickness, reinforcement and any special requirements based on the soil report. We pour to those drawings and specs.

  • For a typical residential slab, allow one day for the pour itself, with site prep happening over the preceding 1–2 weeks. The slab is generally ready for the next trade (frame) within about 7 days, though full strength takes about 28 days.

  • House slabs pricing in Perth typically ranges from $125 to $200+ per square metre, depending on the engineer’s specifications, such as the MPa strenght, the size of the area, and any prep work or demolition required.* Pricing is indicative and subject to change based on material costs, project specifications and site conditions.

  • Yes. We work regularly with owner-builders. We need the engineer’s drawings, the soil report, and any specific instructions. We’ll handle the rest.

  • The most common slab issues are level deviations, insufficient or incorrectly placed reinforcement, poor curing causing surface cracking, and plumbing damage during the pour. We avoid these through careful pre-pour setup, double-checking reinforcement placement against the drawings and controlled curing.

  • Reinforced steel is used to control cracking and add tensile strength.

  • The higher the MPa, the stronger the concrete. We most commonly use 25MPa for most residential builds, however 32MPa is quite common for commercial properties and heavy duty slabs. We always pour to what is specified by the engineers.
