Exposed aggregate
Architectural aggregate finishes sourced from premium Australian suppliers including Boral, Limecrete, WA Premix and Heidelberg Materials. Available mixes include Coral White, Eucalyptus White and Kaajani Grey among many others — see samples in person at our supplier partners in East Perth, Bibra Lake and Osborne Park before committing.

Honed & polished concrete
Honed and polished concrete are architectural finishes from the same premium supply chain as exposed aggregate. The difference is in how the surface is processed: honed concrete is mechanically ground to a refined matte finish and sealed. Both finishes start with the same architectural mix design. Polished concrete takes the mechanical grinding process to a high-gloss finish, typically used for interior ground slabs, garages and undercover alfrescos. Decorative ground slabs are poured at 32MPa to accommodate the polishing process.
Our work in Hilton
Alfresco concrete area — getting the small details right on an outdoor entertaining scope
In Hilton, Colacrete completed a concrete alfresco area for a residential property — a smaller scope that nonetheless carries the same specification requirements as any outdoor slab we pour.
The slab was poured at our standard outdoor specification: 100mm thick, 25MPa concrete, SL62 reinforcing mesh on bar chairs with 8mm steel corner bars at all corners and re-entrant angles. Subgrade was prepared and compacted prior to forming up and the concrete was delivered at the correct slump from the batching plant — no water added on site.
An alfresco is a well-used part of the home. It carries foot traffic daily, furniture, outdoor cooking equipment and in the Perth climate it gets years of UV and heat exposure. Building it to the same specification as a driveway or structural slab is simply the right approach — and it is what Colacrete does on every job regardless of size.
No job is too small to build correctly. The Colacrete standard applies across the board.
The Colacrete standard
Build to spec
Where a licensed structural engineer has specified drawings, Colacrete works to those specifications. If no drawings or specifications are provided, we work to industry standards.
Communication
We pride ourselves on our prompt communication with all our clients. Not only do we aim to provide quotes within 24-48 hours, but we also keep our clients well informed before, during and after the works.
Our experience
We are owner-operated, and our director comes from an engineering background, having graduated from Curtin University and having worked as an engineer for several years. He also comes from a concreting family, with concreting experience spanning decades.
Why Hilton homeowners and builders choose Colacrete
Hilton sits within the City of Fremantle — a quiet residential suburb south of the Fremantle CBD, bordered by White Gum Valley, Spearwood and Beaconsfield. It shares the City of Fremantle's heritage planning context and the sandy soils with limestone substrate typical of the western coastal plain. The suburb has seen growing renovation activity as buyers invest in well-located properties within the City of Fremantle catchment. Outdoor living improvements — alfresco areas, driveways, garden paths and occasionally pool surrounds — are the dominant residential concrete scope in Hilton, as homeowners extend the usable outdoor space of established homes on established lots.
Colacrete is a member of the Housing Industry Australia (HIA), Master Builders Association (MBA) and Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA). Eddie brings an engineering background in civil and construction management alongside long-standing experience across concreting and general construction projects spanning a wide variety of disciplines, scales and scopes.

It depends on the scope. An uncovered concrete patio or alfresco slab may not require a building permit if it is below certain size thresholds and does not involve a covered structure. A covered alfresco with a roof or pergola structure above the slab typically requires a building permit. Crossovers require City of Fremantle approval separately. We advise on what approvals apply to your specific scope during the site visit — it's worth confirming before the concrete is poured.

For Hilton's renovating homes, exposed aggregate is the most popular choice for alfresco entertaining areas — it provides a textured, slip-resistant surface that suits the outdoor context and lifts the visual quality of the space. Honed concrete offers a refined alternative where a smoother, more contemporary finish is preferred. Grey concrete is a practical and cost-effective choice for alfrescos where budget is the primary consideration. All finishes are available in Hilton; the right choice depends on the home's character and the homeowner's brief.
