Exposed aggregate
Architectural aggregate finishes sourced from premium Australian suppliers including Boral, Limecrete, WA Premix and Heidelberg Materials. Available mixes include Coral White, Eucalyptus White and Kaajani Grey among many others — see samples in person at our supplier partners in East Perth, Bibra Lake and Osborne Park before committing.

Honed & polished concrete
Honed and polished concrete are architectural finishes from the same premium supply chain as exposed aggregate. The difference is in how the surface is processed: honed concrete is mechanically ground to a refined matte finish and sealed. Both finishes start with the same architectural mix design. Polished concrete takes the mechanical grinding process to a high-gloss finish, typically used for interior ground slabs, garages and undercover alfrescos. Decorative ground slabs are poured at 32MPa to accommodate the polishing process.
Our work in Spearwood
Reinforced shed slab — built to carry the load it needs to carry
In Spearwood, Colacrete completed a reinforced concrete shed slab for a residential property. The job was standard grey concrete but built to the specification a shed slab deserves: 100mm thick, 25MPa concrete, SL62 reinforcing mesh on bar chairs throughout with 8mm corner bars at all corners and re-entrant angles.
Shed slabs are sometimes treated as a simple scope where corners can be cut — thinner concrete, no mesh, no bar chairs. The reality is that a shed slab carries real loads: the structure above, equipment and vehicles stored inside, and foot traffic over a long service life. A slab built thin without reinforcement will crack and fail under these loads in a way that a correctly built slab simply won't.
Subgrade preparation was completed before the formwork was set — compaction and level checking to ensure the slab had a stable, even base and correct surface falls. The concrete was delivered at the specified slump and poured without on-site water addition.

Why Spearwood homeowners and builders choose Colacrete
Spearwood sits within the City of Cockburn — an established suburb south of Fremantle with a mix of residential properties, light industrial activity and long-standing market garden heritage that has given way to residential development over recent decades. Soils in Spearwood include sandy coastal plain soils with some areas of sandy loam and limestone influence; subgrade conditions can vary across the suburb and are worth assessing individually on each site. The suburb's mix of residential and light industrial land use generates consistent demand for practical concrete work: shed slabs, workshop pads, driveways and outdoor living areas. Spearwood's proximity to Fremantle and Cockburn Sound also means it benefits from the coastal lifestyle investment pattern — pool surrounds, alfresco areas and outdoor living upgrades are an increasing part of the residential concrete scope here.
Colacrete is a member of the Housing Industry Australia (HIA), Master Builders Association (MBA) and Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA). Eddie brings an engineering background in civil and construction management alongside long-standing experience across concreting and general construction projects spanning a wide variety of disciplines, scales and scopes.

"Eddie and his team are incredible. We're in Spearwood and had a concrete slab, concrete footpath and extension of our patio concrete installed, and from our initial conversation, to the job being complete, it's been an awesome experience. They worked around the strip drains beautifully, and took care to make sure it looks awesome to see on the daily! We look forward to putting our new sheds up - cheers team!"

A building permit is generally required for a shed structure in Spearwood — the concrete slab is part of the permitted scope. The City of Cockburn's building permit requirements cover structure type, setbacks and size. Crossovers require separate council approval. We advise on what approvals are needed during the quoting process — it's important to understand the permit requirements before concrete is poured.

For driveways and outdoor entertaining areas in Spearwood, exposed aggregate — particularly from Limecrete, Boral or WA Premix — is a popular choice that suits the suburb's residential character and improves property appeal. Standard grey concrete is the practical choice for shed slabs, workshop pads and functional areas. Liquid limestone is popular for pool surrounds and outdoor areas in Spearwood's coastal-adjacent residential properties, where the light finish suits the outdoor lifestyle aesthetic well.

Our standard shed slab specification is 100mm thick concrete at 25MPa, reinforced with SL62 mesh on bar chairs with 8mm corner bars. This exceeds the minimum requirements of AS 3727 and is the appropriate specification for a slab that will carry a shed structure and be used to store equipment, vehicles or materials. Thinner slabs without reinforcement will crack under these loads over time. If the shed is designed to carry heavier loads — machinery, vehicles, or a significant structure — we can specify to a higher standard based on the structural requirements.
