Exposed aggregate
Architectural aggregate finishes sourced from premium Australian suppliers including Boral, Limecrete, WA Premix and Heidelberg Materials. Available mixes include Coral White, Eucalyptus White and Kaajani Grey among many others — see samples in person at our supplier partners in East Perth, Bibra Lake and Osborne Park before committing.

Honed & polished concrete
Honed and polished concrete are architectural finishes from the same premium supply chain as exposed aggregate. The difference is in how the surface is processed: honed concrete is mechanically ground to a refined matte finish and sealed. Both finishes start with the same architectural mix design. Polished concrete takes the mechanical grinding process to a high-gloss finish, typically used for interior ground slabs, garages and undercover alfrescos. Decorative ground slabs are poured at 32MPa to accommodate the polishing process.
Our work in South Perth
House extension structural slab — two-stage pour with SL82 mesh, waterproofing membrane, dowels and pump
In South Perth, Colacrete completed a structural concrete scope for a builder client — a house extension ground floor slab and footings delivered to engineering plans. Every element of this job was specified by a licensed structural engineer and executed to those drawings.
The footing and slab programme
The footings were excavated and poured first. Once the footings had gained adequate early strength, the waterproofing membrane was laid across the full slab footprint before the slab pour. The membrane prevents ground moisture from rising through the slab into the living space above — a standard requirement on habitable extension slabs and an important long-term performance detail.
The ground floor slab was then poured at 100mm thickness using N25 concrete, with a pump on the second mobilisation.
The engineer specified SL82 reinforcing mesh to the ground floor slab on this job — the engineer's decision to specify SL82 reflects the loading and structural requirements of this particular extension slab.
Given the house extension, steel dowel bars were drilled into the existing concrete foundations around the connection perimeter according to the engineer’s specs, with the new slab poured around these bars to create a reinforced mechanical bond between the new extension and the original structure. This prevents the two slabs from moving independently over time and transfers structural loads across the connection properly.
The Colacrete standard

We are owner-operated, and our director comes from an engineering background, having graduated from Curtin University and having worked as an engineer for several years. He also comes from a concreting family, with concreting experience spanning decades.
Why South Perth homeowners and builders choose Colacrete
South Perth sits within the City of South Perth — one of Perth's most prestigious riverside suburbs, with direct views across the Swan River to the CBD and strong demand from owner-occupiers who invest significantly in their properties. The suburb's established character, mature trees and riverside location make it a consistent market for house extension and renovation work where the concrete scope is structural and complex rather than decorative and straightforward. Sandy soils with some limestone substrate are typical in South Perth's riverfront position — generally reliable bearing conditions, though established lots with deep-rooted mature trees can present localised subgrade variability.
House extensions in South Perth regularly involve the kind of scope completed here: separate footing and slab pours, waterproofing membranes, dowel connections to existing foundations, pump hire for access and structural reinforcement upgrades where the engineer has specified them. Colacrete has the structural knowledge and programme capability to execute these scopes correctly — and as a concrete contractor working directly with builder clients, we understand programme requirements and what it means to turn up on time and hand a site back in condition for the next trade.
Colacrete is a member of the Housing Industry Australia (HIA), Master Builders Association (MBA) and Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA). Eddie brings an engineering background in civil and construction management alongside long-standing experience across concreting and general construction projects spanning a wide variety of disciplines, scales and scopes.

Yes — a house extension in South Perth requires a building permit from the City of South Perth before any structural concrete is poured. All structural concrete including footings, extension slabs and dowelled connections must be executed to the licensed structural engineer's approved drawings. Colacrete works precisely to those drawings. The builder or homeowner manages the permit process — Colacrete's role begins once the approved drawings are in hand and the site is ready.

Both are standard reinforcing mesh products. SL62 is Colacrete's standard specification for residential driveways and outdoor slabs — it provides excellent tensile strength and crack control for normal loading. SL82 is a heavier gauge with larger bar diameter and greater load capacity. It is specified by the structural engineer when the slab loading requirements or structural conditions call for additional reinforcement strength beyond what SL62 provides. On the South Perth extension, SL82 was specified by the engineer for the ground floor slab — Colacrete supplies and installs to whatever the drawings require.

Re-entrant corners are internal corners in a concrete slab — the points where two edges of the slab meet at an angle greater than 180 degrees when viewed from inside the slab footprint. These corners are stress concentration points where shrinkage and structural cracking is most likely to initiate. Placing reinforcing bars — typically N16 deformed bars at 1500mm length — diagonally across these corners, anchored with epoxy, distributes the stress and significantly reduces the risk of corner cracking. On the South Perth extension, two N16 bars were installed at each re-entrant corner as specified by the structural engineer.
