Honed & polished concrete
Honed and polished concrete are architectural finishes from the same premium supply chain as exposed aggregate. The difference is in how the surface is processed: honed concrete is mechanically ground to a refined matte finish and sealed. Both finishes start with the same architectural mix design. Polished concrete takes the mechanical grinding process to a high-gloss finish, typically used for interior ground slabs, garages and undercover alfrescos. Decorative ground slabs are poured at 32MPa to accommodate the polishing process.

House extension and alfresco — structural slab with footings poured as one scope
In Victoria Park, Colacrete completed a structural concrete scope covering a house extension and alfresco area for a residential client. The footings and slab were integrated — poured together as a single structural unit rather than as two separate stages.
Combining the footings with the slab in one pour is an efficient approach for extension and alfresco scopes where the structural engineer has designed the footing as a thickened edge to the slab rather than as a separate strip below it. The result is a robust, well-connected structural slab that forms both the floor of the extension and the foundation it sits on.
The alfresco area was poured as part of the same scope, keeping the finish and specification consistent across the extension and outdoor entertaining area. Both were completed in standard grey concrete — the right choice for a structural scope where the concrete will likely have floor coverings or external paving going over the top.
