Exposed aggregate
Architectural aggregate finishes sourced from premium Australian suppliers including Boral, Limecrete, WA Premix and Heidelberg Materials. Available mixes include Coral White, Eucalyptus White and Kaajani Grey among many others — see samples in person at our supplier partners in East Perth, Bibra Lake and Osborne Park before committing.

Honed & polished concrete
Honed and polished concrete are architectural finishes from the same premium supply chain as exposed aggregate. The difference is in how the surface is processed: honed concrete is mechanically ground to a refined matte finish and sealed. Both finishes start with the same architectural mix design. Polished concrete takes the mechanical grinding process to a high-gloss finish, typically used for interior ground slabs, garages and undercover alfrescos. Decorative ground slabs are poured at 32MPa to accommodate the polishing process.
Our work in Ashfield
Driveway replacement and removal — out with the old, in with a better-built new slab
In Ashfield, Colacrete completed a full driveway replacement including demolition and removal of the existing concrete before pouring the new slab.
Removal on this job was done properly: the existing driveway was saw cut into manageable sections, then a bobcat was used to break up and load the old concrete into dump trucks for removal to a licensed facility. Tipping fees and all removal logistics were managed by Colacrete — the client didn't need to organise a skip or a separate contractor. Once the site was cleared, the subgrade was assessed, prepared and compacted before any formwork was placed.
The new driveway was poured in standard grey concrete to our full specification: 100mm thick, 25MPa minimum, SL62 mesh on bar chairs with 8mm corner bars, concrete slumped at the batching plant and delivered at the correct workability without adjustment on site. The crossover was reconstructed to City of Bayswater specification.
Like many older driveways in Ashfield, the original slab had served well past its useful life — thinly built by today's standards and cracking in multiple places. The replacement is a meaningfully stronger slab built to a higher specification than the one it replaced.
The Colacrete standard
Build to spec
Where a licensed structural engineer has specified drawings, Colacrete works to those specifications. If no drawings or specifications are provided, we work to industry standards.
Communication
We pride ourselves on our prompt communication with all our clients. Not only do we aim to provide quotes within 24-48 hours, but we also keep our clients well informed before, during and after the works.
Our experience
We are owner-operated, and our director comes from an engineering background, having graduated from Curtin University and having worked as an engineer for several years. He also comes from a concreting family, with concreting experience spanning decades.
Why Ashfield homeowners and builders choose Colacrete
Ashfield sits within the City of Bayswater on the Swan River, adjacent to Bassendean and Bayswater — a suburb of established character homes and steady renovation activity. Soils are sandy, consistent with the Swan River corridor, with generally reliable subgrade conditions on established lots. Like its neighbours Bassendean and Eden Hill, Ashfield has a housing stock that predates modern concrete standards by decades. Many driveways in the suburb were laid in the 1960s and 1970s — thin, under-reinforced and without the drainage grades that prevent long-term water problems. The replacement market in Ashfield is consistent, and Colacrete's ability to handle the full scope — demolition, removal, subgrade preparation and new concrete — makes the process straightforward for homeowners who would otherwise need to coordinate multiple contractors.
Colacrete is a member of the Housing Industry Australia (HIA), Master Builders Association (MBA) and Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA). Eddie brings an engineering background in civil and construction management alongside long-standing experience across concreting and general construction projects spanning a wide variety of disciplines, scales and scopes.

Yes — crossovers in Ashfield fall under City of Bayswater requirements. Approval is required before construction and specifications cover materials, width, gradient and drainage. Colacrete builds all crossovers to City of Bayswater standard and handles the crossover reinstatement as part of any driveway replacement scope where required.

For Ashfield's character homes, exposed aggregate — particularly warm-toned blends from Boral, Limecrete or WA Premix — makes a meaningful improvement to street presence and property value over a plain grey replacement. Grey concrete is the solid practical choice where budget is the primary consideration. Either way, the specification underneath — 100mm thick, 25MPa, SL62 mesh — is identical. The finish is the visible difference; the concrete quality is the same.

Yes — Colacrete manages the full replacement scope including saw cutting, bobcat removal, dump truck carting and tipping fees. You don't need to organise a separate contractor or a skip bin. The removal cost is itemised separately on the quote: from $2,500 for the first load, which covers all cutting, removal and disposal. Once the site is clear, we prepare the subgrade and pour the new slab as a single continuous scope.
