Honed & polished concrete
Honed and polished concrete are architectural finishes from the same premium supply chain as exposed aggregate. The difference is in how the surface is processed: honed concrete is mechanically ground to a refined matte finish and sealed. Both finishes start with the same architectural mix design. Polished concrete takes the mechanical grinding process to a high-gloss finish, typically used for interior ground slabs, garages and undercover alfrescos. Decorative ground slabs are poured at 32MPa to accommodate the polishing process.
The pool surround was laid in grey liquid limestone using Limecrete's cantilevered pool edge system — a premium detail that creates a seamless, flush transition from the slab to the pool waterline. External footpaths and crossover were constructed to Town of East Fremantle specification.
Inside, Colacrete poured Limecrete's Coral White decorative concrete at 32MPa for the ground slab — specified for mechanical polishing by the interior fit-out team at a later stage. Achieving the correct aggregate distribution and surface evenness for polishing is technically exacting and requires precise placement and finishing.
The structural scope included footings, house slab, suspended slab and a complete concrete staircase engineered to carry the decking system above.
Our work in East Fremantle
A full concrete package on a bespoke East Fremantle custom build — across decorative and structural scopes
This project represents one of Colacrete's most technically demanding scopes: a complete concrete package across every stage of a bespoke custom home build in East Fremantle.
The driveway was finished in Limecrete's Kaajani Grey Exposed Aggregate — an architectural product featuring a refined dark stone blend from the Limecrete premium range. The site presented a significant engineering challenge: the driveway fell steeply toward the house, requiring a series of purpose-designed gutters to manage surface water without compromising the structural performance of the slab.

Why East Fremantle homeowners and builders choose Colacrete
East Fremantle sits under the Town of East Fremantle — one of Perth's smallest and most active local governments in terms of planning oversight. The suburb is predominantly residential with a strong culture of quality and heritage sensitivity, and sits among the highest property values in Perth's south-west riverside corridor. Sandy soils with a limestone substrate are typical of this western coastal strip; bearing capacity is generally good but subgrade preparation is still critical on sloped or disturbed sites. Heritage overlay areas within East Fremantle may influence crossover and driveway material choices on some properties — we advise on this during the quoting process. The typical concrete scope here reflects the suburb's character: architectural aggregate driveways, polished interior slabs and liquid limestone pool surrounds with premium edge details.
Colacrete is a member of the Housing Industry Australia (HIA), Master Builders Association (MBA) and Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA). Eddie brings an engineering background in civil and construction management alongside long-standing experience across concreting and general construction projects spanning a wide variety of disciplines, scales and scopes.

Yes — all crossovers within the Town of East Fremantle require council approval before construction. Requirements cover width, construction material, gradient and proximity to infrastructure including protected street trees. Some properties fall under heritage overlays that influence surface material choices. Colacrete works to Town of East Fremantle specification on every crossover and advises on any heritage considerations during the site visit.

East Fremantle's prestige custom builds and heritage renovations typically favour architecturally specified finishes. Exposed aggregate driveways — particularly Limecrete's Kaajani Grey from the premium product range — are the most specified decorative driveway finish in this suburb. Polished concrete is popular for interior ground slabs and covered outdoor areas where a high-gloss result is desired. Liquid limestone with the cantilevered pool edge system is the preferred pool surround finish. Honed concrete suits alfresco and outdoor living applications where a refined matte result is required.
