Exposed aggregate
Architectural aggregate finishes sourced from premium Australian suppliers including Boral, Limecrete, WA Premix and Heidelberg Materials. Available mixes include Coral White, Eucalyptus White and Kaajani Grey among many others — see samples in person at our supplier partners in East Perth, Bibra Lake and Osborne Park before committing.

Honed & polished concrete
Honed and polished concrete are architectural finishes from the same premium supply chain as exposed aggregate. The difference is in how the surface is processed: honed concrete is mechanically ground to a refined matte finish and sealed. Both finishes start with the same architectural mix design. Polished concrete takes the mechanical grinding process to a high-gloss finish, typically used for interior ground slabs, garages and undercover alfrescos. Decorative ground slabs are poured at 32MPa to accommodate the polishing process.
Subgrade preparation was completed across all three areas ahead of the pour, with compaction and level setting done before any formwork was placed.
The connecting walkway ties the shed and alfresco together as a usable outdoor system rather than two isolated concrete areas — a small scope addition that significantly improves how the back of the property functions day to day.
Our work in Palmyra
Shed slab, alfresco and walkway — a complete grey concrete outdoor package
In Palmyra, Colacrete completed a grey concrete package covering three connected outdoor areas: a shed slab, an alfresco entertaining area and a concrete walkway linking the two. Each area serves a different function and required its own surface specification — the shed slab poured flat and solid for structural load, the alfresco graded with adequate fall to keep the entertaining area dry, and the walkway finished to connect both spaces cleanly.
The shed slab was poured to our standard specification: 100mm thick, 25MPa concrete, SL62 mesh on bar chairs with 8mm corner bars — the same reinforcement standard we apply to every slab regardless of size. A shed pad that carries vehicle or equipment loads over time needs to be built as if it does, not to a reduced standard because it's covered.
The Colacrete standard
Build to spec
Where a licensed structural engineer has specified drawings, Colacrete works to those specifications. If no drawings or specifications are provided, we work to industry standards.
Communication
We pride ourselves on our prompt communication with all our clients. Not only do we aim to provide quotes within 24-48 hours, but we also keep our clients well informed before, during and after the works.
Our experience
We are owner-operated, and our director comes from an engineering background, having graduated from Curtin University and having worked as an engineer for several years. He also comes from a concreting family, with concreting experience spanning decades.
Why Palmyra homeowners and builders choose Colacrete
Palmyra sits within the City of Melville between the Fremantle and Attadale corridors — an established inner suburb that has seen steady gentrification over the past decade as buyers drawn by its location and character invest in properties that were historically underpriced relative to their neighbours. Sandy soils with limestone substrate are consistent with the City of Melville's western coastal position; drainage is generally good but surface fall design on alfresco and outdoor areas close to the house remains important to prevent damp at the building edge. The most common concrete scope in Palmyra reflects the suburb's renovation activity: outdoor living packages as homeowners extend and improve their properties, shed slabs and garage pads as rear lots are developed, and driveway upgrades as the suburb's streetscapes continue to improve.
Colacrete is a member of the Housing Industry Australia (HIA), Master Builders Association (MBA) and Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA). Eddie brings an engineering background in civil and construction management alongside long-standing experience across concreting and general construction projects spanning a wide variety of disciplines, scales and scopes.

"I recently had Eddie and his team from Colacrete lay a large shed and hardstand concrete slab for me at my house in Palmyra. I also got them to concrete an outdoor court yard to replace a dodgy deck. Right from the beginning, Eddie was punctual, friendly and informative and I just knew he was the right guy for the job. I have pretty high expectations and like things done well and I wasn’t disappointed. Eddie went above and beyond what many tradies would have done and took the time and effort to make sure the job was done right. The finish on the slab was actually better than I expected… Again, because they took the time to make it so. Thanks Eddie for a great job 🙏 done quickly and professionally and for a fair price. I don’t usually leave reviews… but in this case it was well deserved! Happy customer here 😊 Would recommend"

A building permit is generally required for a shed structure in Palmyra — the concrete slab is part of that permitted scope. Alfresco concrete areas may also require a building permit depending on whether they are covered or uncovered and their proximity to boundaries. Crossovers require City of Melville approval separately. We advise on permit requirements during the site visit and quoting process — it's worth understanding what's needed before the concrete goes in.
-
For Palmyra's renovating homes, exposed aggregate is a strong choice for alfresco areas and driveways — it provides the textured surface that reduces slip risk around outdoor entertaining while adding genuine visual quality that improves the feel of the space. Grey concrete is a sound choice for shed slabs and practical areas where finish aesthetics are secondary to performance. Honed concrete and liquid limestone are both popular for higher-end alfresco and pool surround work in the City of Melville area.

Yes — combining these areas in one scope is more efficient and produces a better visual result than staging them separately. Subgrade preparation, compaction and level setting is completed across the full footprint before any formwork goes in, and concrete is poured in a planned sequence. The transitions between areas — where the shed pad meets the walkway, where the walkway meets the alfresco — are treated as deliberate design details rather than after-thoughts.
